"B. B. King, geboren als Riley B. King, (* 16. September 1925 in Berclair, Mississippi; † 14. Mai 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada) war einer der einflussreichsten Blues-Gitarristen und -Sänger und einer der „drei Kings des elektrischen Blues“, neben Albert King und Freddie King. Er beeinflusste Generationen von Rock- und Bluesmusikern. Seine Schallplatten wurden mit insgesamt 15 Grammys ausgezeichnet. Das „B. B.“ in seinem Namen steht für Blues Boy, was wiederum eine Verkürzung von Beale Street Blues Boy ist, seinem Pseudonym als Moderator beim Radiosender WDIA.

1980 wurde B. B. King in die Blues Hall of Fame aufgenommen, 1987 in die Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 1990 wurde er mit der National Medal of Arts geehrt und bekam am 21. August einen Stern auf dem Hollywood Walk of Fame in 6771 Hollywood Blvd. 1995 erhielt er den Kennedy-Preis. 2004 erhielt er den inoffiziellen „Nobelpreis für Musik“, den Polar Music Prize. 2006 wurde er mit der Presidential Medal of Freedom ausgezeichnet, der höchsten zivilen Auszeichnung der Vereinigten Staaten. 2008 wurde in seiner Heimatstadt Indianola das B. B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center eröffnet, dessen Ausstellung die Karriereschritte B. B. Kings darstellt. Im gleichen Jahr wurde er in die American Academy of Arts and Sciences gewählt.

Das Rolling Stone Magazine listet ihn auf Platz sechs der 100 besten Gitarristen aller Zeiten. In einer Liste aus dem Jahr 2003 hatte er Rang drei belegt. In der Liste der 100 besten Sänger aller Zeiten wurde er auf Platz 96 gewählt. 2014 wurde er in die Down Beat Hall of Fame aufgenommen.

2019 wurde er von der Suchmaschine Google mit einem Doodle in Form eines musikalischen Videoclips über sein Leben geehrt." (Wikipedia)

Dem Team King/Ritz gelingt nämlich eine voyeuristisch angelegte Palette zum Landarbeiter, der als Underdog in Amerika heranwächst, damit nicht glücklich ist, um so mehr an Musik Gefallen findet, schließlich mit Platten Geld verdient, ca. 15 Kinder zeugt, mehrere Ehen in den Sand setzt und letzten Endes halbwegs zufrieden damit ist, Pop-Geschichte geschrieben und viele Weiber gehabt zu haben. Solche Stories sind in der Popszene oft genug gedruckt worden und stets langweilig geraten. Diese hier ist bisher in der Welt des Blues einmalig, was nicht heißt, dass sie literarisch wertvoll ist.
